APIS Institute is currently developing a multimedia educational toolkit for high schools for the school year of 2018/2019 on the topics of migration, emigration and international protection.

The project “Multimedia Educational Toolkit for Sensitization in the Field of Migration, Emigration and International Protection” combines expertise in the field of multimedia educational toolkit production by APIS Institute, as well as the knowledge of the two leading experts in the field of migration and refugeeism: Anica Mikuš Kos, president of the Slovene Philanthropy with outstanding experience in working with refugees, and Mirjam Milharčič Hladnik, PhD, research advisor at the Slovenian Migration Institute at the Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Ljubljana.”

Three sets of educational toolkit (refugeeism I migrations I emigrations and refugeeism amongst Slovenians) will be created. Each will contain a short film, an additional material for teachers with guidelines in order to conduct a successful debate after the projection of the film as well as practical exercises based on non-formal education.

“The toolkit will highlight the causes of the current refugee challenges and bring to surface the reasons why Slovenians have left their country in the last century (as refugees and economic migrants) and why they are still going abroad today.”

This educational toolkit will promote the universalism of human rights and enhance the intercultural dialogue, tolerance and prevention of fear from other cultures and ethnicities. Non-formal methods of education will help us sensitize the youngsters and enhance their understanding of the potential that multicultural societies carry.

Currently, we are in the pre-production phase of the 3 sets of multimedia educational materials which will be consequently presented and passed on to a 1000 teachers. Moreover, at least 30 teachers will be thoroughly using the toolkit in the frame of their regular annual curriculum.
